Hey y’all!
It’s been awhile since I did a Weekly REPORT – hopefully it’s been long enough for you to miss them? Lol. Hopefully the rest of this month won’t be quite as crazy as April/early May was and I’ll be back to my regular schedule.
READING
I’ve been in a reading slump since April, y’all, and it’s a bummer. I tend to cycle through my hobbies, hyper fixating on one for a bit and then switching to another when I hit a slump (usually rotating through reading, catching up on TV shows, and playing video games). However, I’d been really good for the past several months at still keeping up with a healthy reading schedule even as my other hobbies waxed and waned! Then April hit: I had 2 weeks in a row of work travel, wedding planning stress picked up, my fiancé and sister graduated from App State and my family was in town…it was busy.
All that said, I recently finished The Message by Ta-Nehisi Coates and I can’t recommend it enough. It’s a powerful reflection on language as a tool of both the oppressor and the oppressed, along with a moving personal reflection on Coates’s evolving understanding of Palestine. It’s a pretty short read, so I highly recommend checking your library or local book store for a copy!
EATING
Stephen and I visited Asheville this weekend to see The Crane Wives in concert (so good!!! Lots of barn burners in their set list). We visited some of our favorite places, including Malaprops bookstore and the Wicked Weed Funkatorium, and stopped at some new places, too!
